Spring concert

Durufle ~ Requiem
Lauridsen ~ Lux Aeterna

Serene and optimistic music to reflect by

Duruflé: Requiem, 1947
Achieved by his use of Gregorian plainsong melodies, Duruflé's Requiem is more akin to Fauré's familiar setting in its sense of serene optimism.

Morten Lauridsen: Lux Aeterna, 1997
Lux Aeterna is a five-movement motet using Latin texts from the requiem mass to open and close the work, and from the Te Deum, O nata lux, and veni sancte spiritus in the three central movements. Its contemplative atmosphere has suggested comparisons with the requiems of Fauré and Brahms.
